The connection between the theology of the Mormon Church and the Word of Faith Movement is obvious to anyone who has studied them both. This short article will show just a few similarities between the two.
THE WORD OF FAITH…and the Planet of God:
Kenneth Copeland tells us, “You don’t think God created man in His image and created the earth in some other image, huh? There’s nothing under the whole sun that’s new-This is a copy of home-a copy of the mother planet. Where God lives, He made a little one just like it and put us on it.” 1
“Heaven has a north and a south and an east and a west. Consequently, it must be a planet.” 2
THE MORMON CHURCH…and the Planet of God:
God is supposed to have lived on a planet near a mysterious star called Kolob. According to Apostle Bruce R. McConkie, “Kolob means ‘the first creation.’ It is the name of the planet ‘nearest to the celestial, or the residence of God.’ …One day in Kolob is equal to a thousand years according to the measurement of this earth.” 3

THE WORD OF FAITH…and the Adam-God Doctrine:
Gloria Copeland, Kenneth Copeland’s wife, stated, “When God breathed the breath of life into Adam, He transmitted His very self into him. God imparted the same spiritual substance of which He is made into Adam’s being.” 4
Kenneth Copeland gives his opinion, “…Adam is as much like God as you can get, just the same as Jesus, when He came into the earth. And I want you to know something; Adam in the garden of Eden was God manifested in the flesh.” 5
THE MORMON CHURCH…and the Adam-God Doctrine:
Brigham Young, 2nd President of the Mormon Church tells us, “When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He is Michael, the Archangel, the Ancient of Days! About whom holy men have written and spoken–He is our Father and our God, and the only God with whom we have to do.” 6

THE WORD OF FAITH…and the Deity of Man:
Kenneth Copeland states, “You don’t have a god in you, you are one.” 7
According to Kenneth Hagin, “You are as much the incarnation of God as Jesus Christ was. Every man who has been born again is an incarnation and Christianity is a miracle. The believer is as much an incarnation as was Jesus of Nazareth.” 8
Earl Paulk in his book Satan Unmasked explains, “Adam and Eve were placed in the world as the seed and expression of God. Just as dogs have puppies and cats have kittens, so God has little gods; we have trouble comprehending this truth. Until we comprehend that we are little gods, we cannot manifest the kingdom of God.” 9
According to Benny Hinn, “When I stand in Christ–I am one with Him; united to Him; one in spirit with Him. I am not part of Him, I am Him! The Word has become flesh in me!…When my hand touches someone, it’s the hand of Jesus touching somebody.” 10
THE MORMON CHURCH…and the Deity of Man:
Apostle Bruce McConkie states, “That exaltation which the saints of all ages have so devoutly sought is godhood itself.” 11
While the Mormons actively strive for godhood, it appears that the Word of Faith Movement leaders think they have already arrived! It is ironic that the same Christians who consider Mormonism as a blasphemous cult will drive 2,000 miles in a hot bus and fall all over themselves to get close to the likes of Benny Hinn! Both cults should be treated like horseshoes straight from the blacksmith’s fire. They should be examined closely and compared to Scripture, but they should be considered too hot to touch!

Just wanted to clarify a misunderstanding about what we believe. Mormons don’t believe that Adam is God. That is not in any of our cannonized scripture, and the living prophets and apostles do not teach that.

Are you saying that Brigham Young was not a living prophet or apostle? Not only did the second leader and second most revered figure in Mormonism teach the Adam/God doctrine,,, but the teaching was further perpetuated by the fourth and fifth Presidents and Prophets Wilford Woodruff and Joseph F. Smith. The Adam/God doctrine was universally taught and widely believed by Mormon leaders until Spencer W. Kimball, denounced it strongly in 1976.
Vacillating and double minded doctrine is pandemic among, and a sure sign of a cult.
Lets look at more “Mormon teachings” on the Adam/God doctrine.
And also with Michael or Adam, the father of all, the prince of all, the ancient of days. (D&C 27:11, August 1830)
…Adam shall come to visit his people, or the Ancient of Days shall sit, as spoken of by Daniel the prophet. (D&C 116, May 19, 1838)
D&C 138:38 says: Among the great and mighty ones who were assembled in this vast congregation of the righteous were Father Adam, the Ancient of Days and father of all. (October 3,1918)
How much unbelief exists in the minds of Latter-day Saints in regard to one particular doctrine which I revealed to them, and which God revealed to me – namely that Adam is our father and God ..Then he said, ‘I want my children who are in the spirit world to come and live here. I once dwelt upon an earth something like this, in a mortal state. I was faithful. I received my crown and exaltation…I want my children that were born to me in the spirit world to come here and take tabernacles of flesh that their spirits may have a house, a tabernacle…’ (Brigham Young, Deseret Weekly News, June 18, 1873, page 308; Deseret Evening News, June 14, 1873)
Who was the Savior begotten by?….Who did beget him? His Father, and his father is our God, and the Father of our spirits, and he is the framer of the body, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Who is he? Some have grumbled because I believe our God to be so near to us as Father Adam. There are many who know that doctrine to be true. (Brigham Young, October 7, 1857, Journal of Discourses 5:331).
Some years ago I advanced a doctrine with regard to Adam being our Father and God…It is one of the most glorious revealments of the economy of heaven… (President Brigham Young, in the Tabernacle, General Conference, October 8, 1861, 10:30 a.m.; Brigham Young Addresses, 1860-1864, Vol. 4, by Elden J. I tell you more: Adam is the father of our spirits. He lived upon an earth, he did abide his creation and did honor to his calling and priesthood and obeyed his master or lord, and probably many of his wives did the same, and they lived and died upon an earth and then were resurrected again to immortality and eternal life. Now hear it, O inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, Saint and sinner! He helped to make and organize this world. He is MICHAEL, the Archangel, the ANCIENT OF DAYS! about whom holy men have written and spokenHE is our FATHER and our GOD, and the only God with whom WE have to do. You believe Adam was made of the dust of this earth. This I do not believe, though it is supposed that it is so written in the Bible; but it is not, to my understanding. You can write that information to the States, if you please – that I have publicly declared that I do not believe that portion of the Bible…. (President Brigham Young, October 23, 1853, Journal of Discourses 2:6).
Adam was made from the dust of an earth, but not from the dust of this earth. He was made as you and I are made, and no person was ever made upon any other principle. (President Brigham Young, April 20, 1856, Journal of Discourses 3:319).
Mankind are here because they are the offspring of parents who were first brought here from another planet, and power was given them to propagate their species…(Brigham Young, October 9, 1859, Journal of Discourses, 7:285286)
Adam, therefore, was resurrected by some one [sic] who had been resurrected. (Brigham Young, Oct. 8, 1854; Brigham Young Addresses, 1850-1854, Vol. 2, by Elden J. Watson, sheet 213 (in chronological order), Unpublished, Box 48 fd 12)

Concerning the item of doctrine alluded to by Elder Caffall and others, viz., that Adam is our Father and God, I have to say do not trouble yourselves…If, as Elder Caffall remarked, there are those who are waiting at the door of the Church for this objection to be removed, tell such, the Prophet and Apostle Brigham has declared it, and that it is the word of the Lord. …some of the officers have not met in council for three years. They are lacking faith on one principle – the last “cat that was let out of the bag.” Polygamy has been got over pretty well, that cloud has vanished away, but they are troubled about Adam being our Father and God. There is a very intelligent person investigating our principles, and who has been a great help to the Saints; he has all the works, and can get along very well with everything else but the last “cat,”and as soon as he can see that clearly, he will become a “Mormon.” I instructed him to write to Liverpool upon it…Relative to the principles recently revealed [this last word is not clear], we have not the least difficulty. If Adam’s being our Father and God cannot be proved by the Bible, it is all right. (Millennial Star, Vol. 16, Saturday, August 5, 1854, pp. 482-483)
Sunday afternoon [Oct. 8, 1854]…There are Lords many and there are Gods many, & the Father of our Spirits is the Father of Jesus Christ: He is the Father of Jesus Christ, Spirit & Body and he is the beginner of the bodies of all men…there have always been an Adam and an Eve – the first man and woman, and their oldest son is heir, and should be our Savior…Michael had his body from the dust of the planet he was begotten on…died and was resurrected …When Jesus has completed his work, Adam shall have a fulness… Adam & Eve had children in the spirit – and their children married – brother & sister – then the bodies followed…(Journal notes by Thomas D. And there are many poems and psalms about the Adam/God doctrine. Some of which are still sung in LDS churches today.
If you wish to discard BY and the D&C, your quite welcome too. But the fact remains that the Adam/God doctrine was taught by the Mormon church. But the Mormon God gave into the USA army when his church was about to be attacked over the issue of Polygamy, and He succumbed to pressures of the Civil rights movement to finally allow blacks into his Priesthoods, so why should the Mormon God be allowed to Change his teachings on his very nature? Because there is but one God, and one God only,,, and he does not change. He is the same from eternity past to eternity future.
That your church vacillates to “peer” pressure, should be an indicator TO YOU that your in a cult. And your eyes should be opened, not to your potential exaltation, but your utter lostness apart from the complete and ALL sufficient atoning death (for your sins) of the BIBLICAL Jesus Christ. Who is God become Flesh to die for sins.
